Cuba participates in Korea-Latin America Future Cooperation Forum

Havana, Jun 12 (Prensa Latina) Cuba participated in the Korea-Latin America and Caribbean Future Cooperation Forum, held in Seoul, capital of the Republic of Korea, the Caribbean island's Foreign Ministry (Minrex) reported today.

Cubaminrex website reported that the island was represented by the Director General of Bilateral Affairs of the Foreign Ministry, Carlos Miguel Pereira, who also held a meeting with diplomatic authorities of the Asian nation.

The event discussed the possibilities for closer cooperation between the Republic of Korea and the countries that make up the Latin American and Caribbean region, particularly in those sectors that contribute to economic growth and the welfare of the people, according to the press release.

This year’s sessions addressed relevant issues such as energy, environmentally friendly technologies and innovation.

During his stay in Seoul, Pereira held a meeting with the Deputy Minister for Political Affairs of the local Foreign Ministry, Chung Byung-won, an opportunity that was favourable for the exchange between both parties on issues of bilateral interest and the international agenda, says Cubaminrex.

Cuba and South Korea established diplomatic relations in February of this year, which, according to recent statements by Cho Tae-yul, the country’s foreign minister, marked a new milestone in bilateral ties and with Latin America and the Caribbean.

The Korea-Latin America and the Caribbean Future Cooperation Forum – an annual event – was first held in 2008, and this time it brought together more than 200 public and business representatives from both sides, in the interest of identifying new business opportunities.

Delegations from Honduras, the Dominican Republic, Panama, Guatemala and Peru, among other Latin American countries, also took part in the event, which opened on the 10th.
