Comissiong, also Barbados Ambassador to the Association of Caribbean States, said the agency had “attained a tremendous milestone: 65 years of existence and of service to the people of the world”.
Prensa Latina has exemplified the best virtues of the Cuban revolution: honesty, courage, transparency, commitment to service, to truth, and a deep sense of responsibility to the people of the world, he added.
In a video-message for the occasion, Comissiong pointed out that the agency played an extremely critical role in the process of counteracting the orchestrated slander that was directed, since its birth, at the Cuban revolution.
But, if it was necessary back then, it is perhaps even more necessary now in this social media age of fake news and extravagant orchestrated propaganda, he stressed.
He said he looked forward to having Prensa Latina continue to play that invaluable role in the coming 65 years.
