In an infographic published on X, the UN agency highlighted that the policy affected almost a thousand people, including minors.
Since reports on the subject began in 2009, Tel Aviv authorities have demolished more than 10,800 Palestinian structures, forcing the displacement of nearly 16,500 citizens.
In a recent annual report on the occupied East Jerusalem area, the Palestinian government revealed that in 2023, 316 structures were demolished, and orders were issued to destroy another 263.
Two months ago, the Israeli human rights organization Ir Amin denounced the increase in the rates of demolition of Palestinian homes in the territory as part of the aggression of the Israeli army since the outbreak of the new cycle of violence in the region on October 7th, 2023.
“It seems that the State of Israel has been experiencing the euphoria of demolishing homes in East Jerusalem, while dozens of Palestinian families are on the streets without a roof over their heads,” the organization stressed.
Ir Amim expressed that this strategy is only one part of a wide series of repressive and intimidating measures that Israel uses against Palestinians in Jerusalem and the West Bank in general, which include collective punishments, police violence, and eviction.
It is estimated that 250,000 Jewish colonists are settled in the eastern part of the city, which the international community considers the capital of the future Palestinian state, while another 500,000 live in the rest of the West Bank.
