Indigenous Dominican leader thanks Cuba for granting scholarships

Roseau, Jun 11 ( Prensa Latina) Lorenzo Sanford, head of the Dominican Kalinago indigenous group, thanked the likelyhood of Cuba granting young members of his community scholarships it has been offering for many years.

During a meeting with Havana’s ambassador here, Miguel Fraga, Sanford also stressed the importance of collaboration to support the natives.

The Cuban Foreign Affairs Ministry said the exchange allowed for a preliminary evaluation of possible cooperation projects in health and education.

The Cuban ambassador will soon visit the Kalinago territory, located in the northwest of the country and home to about three thousand people.

He even expressed his respect and admiration for the cultural heritage and history of the Kalinago and stressed the importance of preserving their traditions.

It is an honor to receive the Kalinago Chief Lorenzo Sanford in our Embassy.

This meeting is an opportunity to strengthen our cultural ties and work together for an inclusive and diverse future’, the Cuban diplomat stated.
