Diaz Canel attends Africa Day celebrations

Havana, Jun 11 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Diaz Canel reportedly attended the central ceremony for Africa Day held at the Palace of the Revolution, seat of the Executive.

At the meeting, held on Monday, the President of the National Assembly of People’s Power, Parliament, Esteban Lazo affirmed that Africa is an indissoluble part of the very essence of Cuba, and recognized the rich history, values, great cultural diversity, and enormous potential, nobility, enthusiasm and resistance of the inhabitants of the known Black Continent.

In this context, we celebrate the achievements of the African Union, the repository of the legacy of the Organization of African Unity, established 61 years ago,” he said noting that ”Africa has been and will always be among us.

Meanwhile, the Ambassador of Djibouti and Dean of the African Diplomatic Corps accredited in Havana Nasser Mohamed Ousbo expressed gratitude to the people and Government of Cuba, which, he pointed out, have always been close to Africa, to the point of sharing its joys and sufferings.

On his speech, Mohamed Ousbo reiterated the condemnation of the U.S. blockade against Cuba and the arbitrary inclusion of Cuba in States Sponsoring Terrorism (SST) list, drawn up by the U.S. State Department.

The event was also attended by the Vice President of the Republic Salvador Valdes.
