Citizen Victory to confront Puerto Rico’s Supreme Court ruling

San Juan, Jun 11 (Prensa Latina) The Citizen Victory Movement (MVC) warned on Tuesday to confront the ruling of the Puerto Rico’s Supreme Court that dismissed four of its candidates to the Legislature, in a highly questioned judicial action.

Ana Irma Rivera Lassen stated on a crowded press conference that despite the 5-3 ruling issued on Monday by Puerto Rico’s highest judicial forum, they will continue their struggle with the people to fracture the bipartisanship that has prevailed for half a century.

“We are discussing several options, including some that people are debating, but we want to be responsible and mull collectively, strategically and politically, what we will be announcing,” the senator referred, who was not affected by the judicial decision.

Rivera Lassen, candidate for Puerto Rico resident commissioner in Washington for the Country Alliance with the Puerto Rican Independence Party (PIP), noted in her appearance to reporters in front of the State Elections Commission (SEC), surrounded by leaders and candidates, as well as dozens of supporters.

“The Supreme Court did not remove us from the ballot, and it is important that the people of Puerto Rico understand so; it did not remove us, it tried to remove us…it is trying to demoralize the people who are seeing a change in the Alliance, and change is coming, no matter what they do,” the MVC general coordinator asserted.

The leftist leader underscored that the New Progressive Party (NPP) and Popular Democratic Party (PDP), which took the case of judicial challenge through some candidates because the MVC used the alternate appointing method instead of primaries, are now in question because of the way in which the SEC conducted them.

She clarified that, contrary to what some people think, the MVC is not over, because it has over 400 candidacies that have not been affected by the Supreme Court ruling.
