Cambodia reaffirms need to lift U.S. blockade against Cuba

Phnom Penh, Jun 11 (Prensa Latina) The Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Cambodia, Sok Chenda Sophea, reiterated here today the need to lift the economic, financial and commercial blockade that the United States has maintained for more than six decades against Cuba.

According to the Cambodian Foreign Minister, the permanent support to Cuba is an expression of the rejection of the hostile policy imposed by the US government on the island, considering its marked extraterritorial character and the effects it represents for the development of the Cuban society.

Sophea thus ratified the invariable position of solidarity of the Kingdom when he received at the Foreign Ministry headquarters, for a courtesy meeting, the Cuban ambassador here, Milena Zaldívar.

The diplomat thanked the Cambodian Foreign Minister for the countless expressions of solidarity of her country towards Cuba, and in particular the support for the struggle for the end of the blockade, whose effects are intensifying due to the unjust inclusion of the island in the unilateral list of alleged state sponsors of terrorism.

In describing the bilateral ties as excellent, the interlocutors committed themselves to carry out coordination actions to fulfill the agreements and consensuses reached in the areas of education, health, sports, agriculture and international relations.

In addition, and under the commitment to realize cooperation possibilities, the ambassador highlighted the importance of the upcoming Political Consultations Meeting between the two countries, which will allow, she said, to take stock of the progress made to date, as well as to address issues of mutual interest.
