Warnings on possible floods in southern China

Beijing, Jun 10 (Prensa Latina) Several rivers in southern regions of China could suffer floods above alert levels due to heavy rainfall forecast for the coming days, the Ministry of Water Resources warned. According to the ministry, rivers in Jiangxi, Zhejiang, Fujian, Guangxi, Guangdong and Hunan, among other regions, could rise due to rainfall expected between tomorrow and Saturday in the southwest and south of the country, as well as south of the Yangtze River.

The central administration is carrying out an action plan to prevent and respond to storms and floods.

Local water resources authorities are also strengthening precautionary measures and response efforts, especially at construction sites and tourist attractions.

The China Meteorological Administration issued a yellow alert the day before for the possibility of torrential downpours in China’s mountainous regions.

Yellow is the third most severe level in the four-level weather warning system, and authorities said mountain torrents are likely to hit parts of Zhejiang, Fujian and Jiangxi.
