In a greeting to that institution on the occasion of its 65th anniversary, Mas reiterated CAPAC’s support and highlighted the joint commitment with the slogan ” Patria o muerte, venceremos!
Prensa Latina’s permanence is proof that other means of communication are possible, objective but not impartial, as defined by its first director, Jorge Ricardo Masetti (1929-1964), who fully interpreted the communication policy that Commander Fidel Castro (1926-2016) and Ernesto Guevara (1928-1967) thought for the Revolution, he affirmed.
For all that, we thank Prensa Latina, for being the great disseminator of the Cuban revolutionary process and for being the voice of the people’s resistance in the world, he added.
Founded on June 16, 1959, to confront the disinformation and manipulation campaigns by the big monopolies, the news agency had Masetti as one of its main figures and the renowned journalist Rodolfo Walsh (1927-1977), among other great Latin American figures who worked there.
According to writer Stella Calloni, Prensa Latina “is an example of journalistic ethics, because it respects the people’s right to receive truthful information, in a world where the hegemonic power takes over most of the mass media and technologies, sowing lies and hatred.”
Recently, the Secretary General of the Press Union of Buenos Aires, Agustín Lecchi, highlighted Prensa Latina’s importance and continuity, with correspondents in dozens of countries and a Latin American conception of struggle against imperialism.
