Blinken will visit Egypt, Israel, Jordan and Qatar until Wednesday to “discuss with his partners the need to reach a ceasefire agreement” in the conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, according to a press release from the US State Department.
“The secretary (Blinken) will discuss how the ceasefire proposal would benefit both Israelis and Palestinians,” the text said, although the United States continues its military support for Israel.
Prior to the tour, Blinken accompanied President Joe Biden to Normandy and Paris, France, on the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the landing of the allied forces in that area in northwestern France, which was occupied by Nazi Germany at the time.
Blinken will also accompany Biden to Apulia, where the G7 Leaders’ Summit, a forum comprising the world’s most industrialized economies (Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States), will be take place.
