Through a statement published on its Facebook page, the Ministry of Defense (MoD) informed that a unit operating in the vast desert region of Al-Badieh in the center and east of the country, clashed with terrorists affiliated to the Islamic State group, Daesh in Arabic, banned on the list of international terrorism.
It explained that the clash took place during the combing operations of the armed forces and ended with the elimination of several extremists while others were wounded.
The MoD added that the military operating in the rural areas of Aleppo province in the north and Latakia province in the west, managed to destroy seven drones of terrorist groups with which they intended to attack military posts and civilian communities.
On Saturday, elite units of the Syrian Armed Forces began a major military operation against terrorist groups in the vast desert.
Over the past few months, the remnants of the Daesh group increased their attacks on civilian communities and positions of the Syrian Army and their allies, causing the death of dozens of people.
According to denunciations from Damascus, these radicals receive logistical support, protection and intelligence information from U.S. military occupying areas of Tanef, in the country’s eastern region.
Syria faces a war imposed since 2011, and although its army, with the support of its allies Russia and Iran, liberated most of the national territory from terrorist organizations, some attacks occur that Damascus attributes to armed groups supported from abroad to continue destabilizing the country.
