NGO warns of rising number of abortions in Gaza due to war

Recien-Nacido-500x375-1
Ramallah, Jun 9 (Prensa Latina) The NGO ActionAid International warned on Sunday about the surge in abortion cases among pregnant women in Gaza due to food shortages and psychological stress resulting from permanent threat.

In a statement, the NGO explained that Al Awda Hospital, located in the Nuseirat refugee camp, is one of the few in Gaza that currently provides maternity services, including deliveries and caesarean sections.

Officials at the center stated that the number of pregnant women coming to the center is on the rise due to severe bleeding and other complications.

The head of the hospital’s Obstetrics and Gynecology Department, Raed Al-Saudi, said that 40 to 50 babies are born every day, although there are only 35 beds.

Quoted by the organization, Fadwa, 30, said she had a miscarriage.

I was tired and did not receive adequate nutrition, and there was nothing to help me preserve my child, she said.

The head of the hospital’s In-patient and Maternity Department Dr. Yasmine, on the other hand, explained that the medical staff documented many similar cases.

It is quite possible that the post-partum hemorrhage cases are the result of malnutrition, or anemia, since bombing causes constant displacement, she said.

The specialist warned that most of the children are born with low birth weight, and many of them were taken to the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital for lack of oxygen, respiratory difficulties or infections due to lack of hygiene.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 95% of pregnant and breast-feeding women in Gaza face severe food poverty.
