Displaced people in DRC province return to their homes

Kinshasa, Jun 9 (Prensa Latina) A number of families displaced by recent clashes between the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the rebels of the March 23 Movement (M23) are returning to their homes today.

According to the president of the civil society of Kanyabayonga, Daniel Kamwanga, since the calm in this rural commune and the end of clashes, people are gradually returning to their homes, noting that about 50% have already returned to their residences.

In particular, there are eight neighborhoods in the Lubero territory, in the province of North Kivu, where civilians are back. The situation is not the same in the area of Bwito though, the source explained.

Kamwanga called for the army to keep pressure on the M23 so that the population can continue to return home.

On Saturday, the DRC Armed Forces retook control of Mirangi, Lusuli and Kyaghala villages, about 20 km off Kanyabayonga city.

The victory moved the fighting away from Kanyabayonga, but M23 rebels keep control of Lusogha and Bulindi villages, while clashes continues in Kikuku, the main town of Bwito chiefdom, and on the Kabasha-armoirie road in Virunga National Park on the way to Rwindi in Rutshuru.
