Cuba rejects again its inclusion in terrorism list

Cuba-Carta-al-Secretario-General-ONU-1
Havana, Jun 9 (Prensa Latina) Cuba's permanent representative to the United Nations, Ernesto Soberón, reportedly reiterated to the UN Secretary General, António Guterres, the denunciation for the inclusion of his country in the US terrorist list.

In a statement, also addressed to the president of the United Nations General Assembly and to the presidency of the Security Council, Soberon shared the position of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Minrex) entitled “The United States must remove Cuba, once and for all, from the list of States that allegedly sponsor terrorism”.

This statement denounces this unjust inclusion and stresses that it is not enough just to recognize that Cuba fully cooperates with Washington’s anti-terrorist efforts.

Similarly, Soberón requests that the letter and its annex (the Minrex statement) be circulated as a document of the General Assembly, under agenda item 109, and of the Security Council.

The U.S. State Department informed that Cuba was removed from the list of countries that, according to Washington, “do not cooperate fully” in the fight against terrorism.

For its part, the Cuban government considered the provision insufficient, which is not equivalent to the elimination of the list of countries sponsoring terrorism, which implies serious limitations for the island’s economic and commercial business.
