The ¨Contigo Chile Mejor¨ list, made up of 11 different ruling parties including Frente Amplio, Socialismo Democrático, Partido Comunista, Socialista, Federación Regionalista Verde Social, Comunes, Liberal and Democracia Cristiana, among others, will hold 46 primaries for mayors.
Meanwhile, the right-wing coalition Chile Vamos, formed by Renovación Nacional, Unión Demócrata Independiente and Evópoli parties, will hold elections to define candidates for municipal heads in 20 municipalities and for governors in Coquimbo and Aysén regions.
The Social Christian Party and the Independents will also choose candidates for municipal positions.
All polling stations will remain open from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., provided that there are no voters waiting to vote.
Although the law reestablishing mandatory voting was enacted in December 2022, this regulation will not apply to the primaries.
It is a voluntary election, but results will be relevant and binding for the general elections in coming October. For this reason, our interest is to reach a large participation, commented Andrés Tagle, President of the Board of Directors of the Electoral Service.
