Russian-Chinese lunar station scheduled for completion by 2036

Moscow, Jun 4 (Prensa Latina) The creation of an International Scientific Lunar Station (ISLS) is scheduled for completion by 2036, Sergey Saveliev, Deputy Director General for International Cooperation of the Russian Space Agency Corporation (ROSCOSMOS), informed on Tuesday.

The lunar station aims to conduct multidisciplinary research to study and use the Moon, Saveliev said during a Budget and Financial Markets Committee at the Federation Council (Upper House of the Russian Parliament) meeting.

In March 2021, Roscosmos and China signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and cooperation on the ISLS creation.

The Chang’e-6, Chang’e-7, and Chang’e-8 stations will be sent to the Moon during the lunar program.

The first lunar missions will aim to test essential technologies to allow the building of a series of remote-controlled experimental and research facilities. The first mission will go to the Moon by 2026, and the project is scheduled for completion by 2028.

On May 28, the State Duma (Lower House of the Russian Parliament) ratified an agreement with the Chinese Government on cooperation in the station’s creation.
