At a press conference after their bilateral talks at the Foreign Ministry in this capital, Al-Mekdad stressed the strategic Syria-Iran relations and the importance of continuing to cooperate to strengthen them.
The Iranian foreign minister, in turn, reiterated his country’s support for Damascus in the fight against terrorism and to achieve greater stability and development.
On behalf of the Iranian Government and people, he expressed gratitude and appreciation to the Syrian Government and people for their solidarity over the physical loss of President Ebrahim Raisi and his companions in a helicopter crash.
Regarding the efforts for the normalization of Syria’s relations with Türkiye, the head of Syrian diplomacy considered that the basic condition for any Syria-Türkiye dialogue is that Ankara announce its readiness to withdraw from the occupied Syrian territories.
We want to see concrete Turkish pledges reflecting Türkiye’s commitment to withdraw from our occupied lands and stop supporting terrorist organizations, the Minister assured.
Damascus and Tehran have maintained a strategic alliance since the triumph of the Islamic Revolution in 1979, which was strengthened by Iran’s support for the fight against terrorism during the war in Syria since 2011.
