From June 1 to 14, youth is mobilized in leading agricultural areas and camping in historical sites associated with these two outstanding leaders of the struggle for Cuba’s emancipation.
There will also be blood donations and tributes to health representatives, a high priority for the Cuban socialist model, the Juventud Rebelde newspaper’s website reported.
Other activities include book launching and film screening related to the date.
The Cuban youth has made it a tradition to honor Antonio Maceo, who was born in Santiago de Cuba on June 14, 1845, and died in Punta Brava, in western Cuba, on December 7, 1896, fighting against the Spanish army.
Young Cubans will pay tribute, on the same day, to Argentinean-Cuban guerrilla fighter Ernesto Guevara de la Serna, who was born in Rosario, Argentina, and was assassinated in La Higuera, Bolivia, on October 9, 1967, leading a liberation movement in that nation.
