The National Federation of University Teachers (CONADU), the Confederation of Education Workers, and other organizations that include the Front, reported in a statement that they had decided after several failed negotiations with the Executive. “The Government did not formulate any concrete proposal that would respond to salary loss, which keeps more than half of our members below the poverty line,” the Front said.
The Trade Union also explained that the sector is asking for payment increases to address high inflation, in addition to the restitution of the Teacher Incentive Fund, resources for training, and other compensating mechanisms that were eliminated by the management of La Libertad Avanza.
“Far from resolving the conflict, the Government exacerbates it. During the historic university march on April 23rd, this Front presented a document that incorporated the update of operating expenses of the universities which has already been channeled. We celebrate this principle of solution, but we warn that they represent only 0 percent of the budget of the universities”, the statement indicates.
It also specifies that “the remaining 90 percent is the salary of those who work in universities, and this is still without a solution.”
“The Executive has the responsibility of offering a proposal that allows teachers and non-teachers to carry out their work. Without decent salaries, there is no possibility of a quality public university”, the Front asserts.
