The statement came after the alleged authorization of the President of the United States, Joe Biden, for Ukraine to use weapons supplied by the US to attack Russian soil from the province of Kharkov.
“I would like to warn American functionaries of failures that can have fatal consequences. For unknown reasons they underestimate the seriousness of the response they may receive,” said Ryabkov, who also recalled that President Vladimir Putin “has repeatedly spoken out” about this issue, and called on Washington to treat Russia’s warning “with the utmost seriousness.”
When it comes to attacks on Russian early warning systems by Ukraine using weapons both made in, and provided by the United States, Ryabkov said responses can be asymmetrical.
The US State Department previously stated that Biden authorized Ukraine to use US weapons against targets in Russian territory threatening the Kharkov region, but left in force the ban on the use of ATACMS missiles.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov, asserted that Moscow is unaware of the alleged authorization given by the US president. However, he stressed that the fact that the Ukrainian military can carry out strikes against Russia using weapons supplied by Washington “eloquently demonstrates the degree of involvement of the United States in this conflict.”
The vice president of the Russian Security Council, Dmitri Medvedev, commented on the information and assured that Ukraine and its allies will receive a devastating response if they use long-range Western weapons against Russian territory.
