The federal lawmaker also congratulated incumbent President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and ‘the democratic and progressive camp and above all women for this conquest.’
Lopez Obrador described the election and Sheinbaum’s victory as a historic event, and stated that ‘when my term ends, I will retire and I will not participate in any public or political event.’
In 200 years of history, Sheinbaum, who won 58.3 to 60.7 percent of the votes in Sunday’s election, will be the first female president of Mexico.
