President-elect underscores brotherhood between Cuba and Mexico

Mexico, Jun 3 (Prensa Latina) Mexican Presdent-elect Claudia Sheinbaum on Monday highlighted the brotherhood that exists between her country and Cuba when thanking President Miguel Díaz-Canel for his congratulatory message after her election.

“Mexico and Cuba are sister nations, united by ties of cooperation, solidarity and shared history,” said Sheinbaum, the first woman elected in this country to assume the presidency, on her X profile.

She thanked “president @DiazCanelB for his call to congratulate us on the victory of this historic June 2.”

The Cuban head of State wrote on the same social network that #Cuba salutes the historic election of @Claudiashein as President of #Mexico and on behalf of his government and his people, he wished her success in her administration, the first woman in that position.

“Count on the Cuban willingness to continue to strengthening the endearing brotherhood that unites our peoples,” Díaz-Canel said.

He explained that in a telephone conversation with Claudia Sheinbaum, he had reiterated his warm congratulations for her election as President of Mexico and conveyed his admiration and support for her victory.

“I confirmed the willingness to advance in areas of mutual interest for bilateral relations,” the Cuban president pointed out.

Cuba and Mexico have had uninterrupted diplomatic relations since 1902 and in this scenario, there are numerous agreements in several areas, such as the exchange of Correspondence by Radiotelegraphy, tourism, cooperation to combat international drug trafficking, air transport, health care, among others.

Mexico has always expressed its rejection of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba, a long-standing unilateral policy that inflicts serious damage on the economy and the lives of Cubans.
