Italy launches book on Gianni Mina and Fidel Castro’s talks

Rome, Jun 3 (Prensa Latina) The launch of a book on talks between Italian journalist Gianni Mina and the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, begins in Italy on Monday, in one of the most significant publishing events of the year.

The launch of this book starts with a keynote speech at the University of Genoa, in the northern region of Liguria, as part of a tour organized by the Gianni Mina Foundation and the Italian-Cuba Friendship Association (ANAIC), the latter organization stated in a release.

This book collects Mina’s meetings with Fidel Castro since 1974, with prologues by Jorge Amado and Gabriel Garcia Marquez, an epilogue by Frei Betto, and edited by filmmaker Loredana Macchietti, widow of the famous Italian journalist.

This volume gathers his four interviews with Fidel Castro, including those of 1987 and 1990, followed by two more. The last one occurred in 2015, a year before the death of the Commander-in-Chief, framed by the visit of Pope Francis to Cuba, the source noted.

They were an example of his responsible journalism, his ability to challenge dogmas imposed by the press at the service of US imperialism, and his defense against the tide of the humanist and social work of the revolutionary process in that Latin American nation.

Macchietti, president of the Gianni Mina Foundation, will be present to discuss this book, in Genoa and the meetings planned in Trento and Rovereto, two towns in the northern Trentino-Alto Adige alpine region.
