In the first five months of this year, almost 800,000 vehicles were equipped with this device, which is a mandatory part of new or imported cars that meet Russia’s safety standards, the report said.

Alexei Raikevich, CEO of Glonass, highlighted the effectiveness of the automated system, which saves thousands of lives every year.

Since the launch of Glonass ERA, motorists have made more than 380,000 emergency calls to rescue teams. Eighty percent of the requests for help were made automatically in serious accidents, the manager pointed out.

Practice shows that in such cases the injured occupants of the vehicle could not call for help on their own, could not find or reach their cell phone, Raikevich noted.

In addition to emergency calls, ERA Glonass has a public transport monitoring system in all regions of the country.

The solution enables millions of passengers to plan their route in real time, receive route information and public transport arrival time at a particular stop via popular mobile applications, the company said.
