The assistance consists of 90 tons of nine Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) made in India, the Foreign Ministry informed in a statement.
The APIs, which left from the Mundra port in Gujarat state on Sunday, will be used by Cuban drug manufacturers to produce essential antibiotics in several forms, including tablets, capsules, syrups, and injections, which are necessary to treat chronic infectious diseases, the official source indicated.
The Foreign Ministry emphasized that the assistance reaffirms India’s status as the “Pharmacy of the World” and underlines its commitment to the historic friendship with Cuba, whose diplomatic relations will mark 65 years in 2025.
Responding to a question from Prensa Latina on Thursday about the effects of arbitrary and extraterritorial measures such as the US blockade and the unjust designation of Cuba as a state sponsor of terrorism on the Cuban people, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed the excellent relations that unite India and Cuba. jg/iff/mem/lrd
