The global event, which brought together ministers and government public servants from more than 160 countries and representatives from the private sector, addressed digital cooperation, the 20-year legacy of the WSIS, and the progress of AI in each social sector.
The WSIS Awards were granted to recognize the work of representatives from 18 countries, including Latin American projects from Mexico and Argentina.
In Mexico’s case, the Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT, in Spanish) was awarded for its Interactive Tool of Policies, Terms, and Conditions Applicable in the Use of Digital Platforms.
This initiative provides users with transparent and accessible information on the privacy policies and terms of service of different digital platforms, allowing them to make informed decisions and promote digital literacy.
Cuba also attended the international event. During a speech by Communications Minister Mayra Arevich in the panel “Gateway to knowledge, enhancing global access through digital,” the minister presented Cuba’s actions to improve the accessibility of information and communication technologies (ICT).
Another relevant activity during the WSIS was the celebration of AI Governance Day on May 29 to discuss national and regional initiatives for AI regulatory frameworks based on principles of equity, inclusion, safety, and security.
