Venezuela condemns Cuba’s inclusion on US illegal list

Caracas, May 31 (Prensa Latina) Venezuela expressed its deepest condemnation of the list that classifies Cuba as an State Sponsor of Terrorism (SSOT), created by the United States Government, and demanded an end to Washington's hostile policy.

The Venezuelan Foreign Ministry stated in a press release on Thursday night that this decision, which lacks any foundations and is based on spurious political criteria, is a hostile act and a flagrant violation of international law.

It stressed that Cuba, throughout history, ‘has been an example of solidarity, collaboration and struggle for peace.’

Its commitment to fighting terrorism is unquestionable, the Foreign Ministry noted, underscoring the international community’s recognition of Cuba, on numerous occasions, for providing refuge to the victims of terrorism and its active collaboration in the fight against this scourge in different regions of the world.

The Bolivarian Republic stated that Cuba’s inclusion on that list responds only to the political interests of the US administration, which is determined to maintain the economic, commercial and financial blockade and suffocate the Cuban people.

It emphasized that this measure ‘is not only unjust and arbitrary, but also hinders international cooperation in the fight against terrorism.’

The Bolivarian Government demanded that its US counterpart ‘immediately remove Cuba from the SSOT list and end its hostile policy.’

We call on the international community to condemn this decision and defend the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of the States, it stressed.
