When signing the monument’s visitor book, the parliamentary leader noted that “maintaining the parliamentary commitment between Suriname and Cuba, which have enjoyed 45 years of diplomatic relations based on mutual respect, is crucial to strengthening our diplomatic relations.”
Bee also expressed the importance of continuing to promote bilateral cooperation and with other nations in the region, the Cuban legislative body reported on its website.
The head of the Surinamese Parliament arrived in Cuba on May 29 for an official visit to commemorate the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between both countries, which is celebrated on Friday.
During his stay in Cuba, he was received at the National Capitol by his Cuban counterpart, Esteban Lazo, and he will also hold talks with other officials and will tour places of historic and cultural interest, among other events.
In statements to reporters, Marinus Bee reiterated his country’s support for the Cuban people’s struggle to have the blockade imposed by the United States for more than six decades lifted.
