Slovenia recognizes Palestine and awaits parliamentary vote

Ljubljana, May 30 (Prensa Latina) The Slovenian Government recognized an independent Palestinian State on Thursday, a decision that must be approved by Parliament, Prime Minister Robert Golob said.

In this way, this Balkan country follows the steps of Spain, Ireland and Norway in an option that seeks to put pressure on Israel to end the conflict in Gaza.

Of all 27 members of the European Union, Sweden, Cyprus, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, Romania and Bulgaria have recognized the Palestinian State so far.

Malta said that it will follow suit, while the United Kingdom and Australia are also considering the recognition.

Health authorities in Gaza claim that more than 36,000 Palestinians have been killed so far, since the offensive unleashed by Israel in an unrestrained response to an aggression perpetrated by Hamas on October 7.
