Díaz-Canel assesses economic progress in Sancti Spiritus

Sancti Spíritus, Cuba, May 30 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel met on Thursday with workers and managers in Yaguajay municipality, in Sancti Spíritus, to learn about the status of the economic and social programs on the territory.

Accompanied by the secretary of organization of the Communist Party of Cuba, Roberto Morales, the head of State visited the Mérida Dairy Products Business Unit, a company that has achieved its goals despite the complex global context.

The Presidency of the Republic reported on X that Díaz-Canel had noted the company’s productive management and reflected on why other groups in the sector do not achieve the same results.

Productos Mérida Director Ignacio González, in turn, noted that his company stands out for the variety of product, work in the community and support for territories that do not comply with the delivery of milk.

Díaz-Canel pointed out that “the inefficiency of the provincial dairy company swallows up the efficiency of the Business Unit” and these “are things that have to change in business thinking and in the adoption of measures,” he said.

On Thursday, the president also visited a unit of the Venegas Livestock Company, which has recovered 10 of 18 dairy farms since 2023.

According to the Presidency, these good experiences were achieved through bank credit, a sense of belonging and work.

During his tour of the company, Díaz-Canel stated that the work of the Livestock Company represents what Cuba wants to achieve in the livestock field.

Center Director Livan Franco explained that the company has been comprehensively structured and currently has farms with various products, agricultural input stores, a veterinary clinic, a training classroom, a gestation center, a mini-plant and a rodeo.

The president’s agenda in Yaguajay also included a visit to the Doctor Mario Muñoz Monroy teaching polyclinic, which serves a population of 9,000 inhabitants in the Venegas Health area.

Díaz-Canel met with local residents who receive the basic services provided by that medical facility, and learned about the main indicators of the center, according to a report published by the local newspaper Escambray.

The source explained that at the end of the tour, the head of State chaired a meeting at the Venegas House of Culture, to specify the experiences and discuss with the main representatives of the demarcation about how generalize good results and perfect the work.
