Artificial Intelligence (AI) Summit opens in Geneva

Geneva, May 30 (Prensa Latina) The Global AI for Everyone Summit opened in this city on Thursday as part of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) to address the challenges of this technology and its use for the common good.

According to a press release from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the United Nations agency sponsoring both events, the summit is celebrating AI Governance Day in the presence of ministers and regulating authorities from more than 70 countries, and representatives from industry, the academic world, and civil society.

The technological event promotes national and regional initiatives on AI regulatory frameworks based on the core principles of equity, inclusion, security, and protection to ensure that rapidly evolving technologies benefit all humanity.

Discussions also explore the role of international technical standards and capacity building in ensuring effective and consistent global AI governance in an environment of inclusion and trust.

Experts also discuss leading open code and proprietary language models and the ways to harmonize high technology: the role of AI standards as an implementation tool.

“This Global Summit provides a meeting point for several experts with different views to examine the latest developments in AI and how to ensure that this technology continues to be a force for good, promoting inclusive growth and sustainable and equitable progress for all,” ITU Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin stated.
