In an exclusive interview granted here to Prensa Latina, the Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs described this act as “a very significant event”, which took place on November 1, 1974, marking a historic milestone in bilateral ties.
The 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between our two countries is a reflection of the level of traditional ties existing, not only between the governments but also among the Laotian and Cuban peoples, he said. “We will always remember, when it comes to Lao-Cuban relations, the time when our peoples fought together for national independence,” Kommasith maintained, adding that “we have a vivid memory of the heroine (Melba Hernandez) and the Cuban doctors who visited Viengsay, the stronghold of our revolutionary provinces.”
