Kenya investigates alleged abuses by British soldiers in the country

Nairobi, May 28 (Prensa Latina) Kenyan legislators begin a series of public hearings on Tuesday to investigate allegations of human rights violations and abuse of power by British soldiers stationed in this country.

The British Army has a military base in Kenya, in Nanyuki, about 200 kilometers north of the capital, and some of its soldiers have been accused of rape and murder against residents.

Press sources recall this Tuesday that the most high-profile case is that of Agnes Wanjiru, a 21-year-old Kenyan woman whose body was found in a septic tank in Nanyuki in 2012 after she was last seen alive with a British soldier.

Shortly after the murder, The Sunday Times revealed, based on witness testimony, that the soldier confessed the crime to his comrades, and the crime was denounced to the military hierarchy. No action was taken.

The Kenyan parliamentary inquiries into the allegations against the British military forces are being held from Tuesday to Thursday, May 30, at several locations near the British army base.
