Concern in Belize about the impact of environmental contamination

contaminacion-canada-1
Belmopan, May 28 (Prensa Latina) The government of Belize today monitors with concern the damage to human health from the heavy environmental pollution that covers the Toledo and Cayo district (south), due to the intensification of forest fires.

The Ministry of Health and the Department of Environment are working together to monitor the situation in these districts and have committed to issuing updates to keep residents informed.

In this context, they warned that the fires cause heavy pollution due to smoke, which poses risks to the population, especially vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and those suffering from respiratory conditions.

In addition, they recommended staying indoors with doors and windows properly sealed, using air purifiers, limiting outdoor activities, and protecting oneself with filtered face masks in case one needs to go outdoors.

According to both State entities, they also support other departments in operations to control wildfires and mitigate their impact on air quality.
