In his speech, broadcast by the local television station TRT, he affirmed that the era of coups and military memorandums in the country is behind him.
In his opinion, the current Constitution undermines confidence in politics, Türkiye ‘cannot move forward’, and he expressed, once again, the initiative to approve a new magna carta in the ‘island of democracy and freedom’.
He also recalled that former Prime Minister Adnan Menderes and two of his government ministers were executed after the 1961 military war.
According to history, on May 27, Türkiye commemorates the anniversary of this coup, ‘we will not forget or forgive the conspirators not only after 64 years, but also after centuries’, Erdogan said.
He added that the present Constitution does not reflect today’s realities and is a cause for shame, ‘we can no longer force our nation, which celebrated the centenary of the Republic, to live with a coup constitution’.

Presidente de Türkiye anunció posible adopción de nueva Constitución
Ankara, 27 may (Prensa Latina) El presidente de Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, anunció hoy la necesidad de adoptar una nueva constitución como reemplazo de la actual implementada luego del golpe militar de 1980.
En su discurso, transmitido por la televisora local TRT, afirmó que la época de los golpes de Estado y los memorandos militares en el país quedó atrás.
A su juicio, la Constitución actual socava la confianza en la política, Türkiye ‘no puede seguir adelante’, y expresó, una vez más, la iniciativa de aprobar una nueva carta magna en la ‘isla de la democracia y la libertad’.
Recordó, asimismo, que el exprimer ministro Adnan Menderes y dos de sus ministros de Gobierno fueron ejecutados después de la guerra militar de 1961.
Según refiere la historia, el 27 de mayo Türkiye conmemora el aniversario de este golpe, ‘no olvidaremos ni perdonaremos a los conspiradores no sólo después de 64 años, sino también después de siglos’, aseguró Erdogan.
Añadió que la Constitución presente no refleja las realidades actuales y es motivo de vergüenza, ‘ya no podemos obligar a nuestra nación, que celebró el centenario de la República, a vivir con una constitución golpista’.
