Teachers protested at several German universities to draw attention to the victims of Israel’s war.
Under pressure from several politicians, the police cracked down on the young activists, the Tagesschau news agency reported.
Since Wednesday, May 22, some 150 students occupied classrooms at Humboldt University in Berlin, whose mayor, Kai Wegner, called on the university to take action, and the police violently broke up the protest, the news agency reported.
Many students from the Goethe University in Frankfurt stayed at a protest camp last week. They held cultural and political events to draw attention to the war, the Hessenschau website reported.
The police guarded the camp with several vehicles every day. The university declared some slogans calling for Palestinian freedom to be anti-Semitic and banned their public display.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel’s bombings on the Gaza Strip have killed nearly 36,000 persons, mostly children, women and elders, in addition to destroying tens of thousands of buildings, schools, hospitals, and UN offices.
