Cuba attends 77th World Health Assembly

Havana, May 27 (Prensa Latina) Cuba is participating in the 77th World Health Assembly (WHA), which began in Geneva, Switzerland, on Monday and will close on June 1.

The Cuban delegation, headed by Public Health Minister José Angel Portal, will share experiences in strengthening healthcare systems, the Cuban government reported on its official X account.

Prior to the beginning of the event, Portal attended a meeting of Ministers of Health of the Pan American and World Health Organizations (PAHO/WHO), where they discussed the need to work together to achieve universal access to health care.

Portal informed on the social network that Cuba had been elected a member of the WHA General Committee.

The minister also met on Monday with his counterparts from the Maldives, Abdulla Khaleel, and Qatar, Hanan Mohamed Al-Kuwari, with whom he ratified the will to continue to expand ties associated with medical cooperation.

The 77th World Health Assembly will focus on key issues for the sector, such as preparedness for future pandemics and the influence of climate change on human well-being.

The WHA is the supreme decision-making body of WHO and its main functions are to determine the policies of the organization, appoint the Director-General, supervise financial policies, and review and approve the proposed program and budget.
