In an email sent to the entities representing the teachers, the MGI indicated that the scheduled meeting is not a negotiation process, as disclosed, but rather “the signing of the agreement, therefore, there is no room to receive new counterproposals.”
The MGI explained that the email sent to the unions had the “sole objective of providing additional specifications and reaffirming the understanding maintained between the entities and the Government” during the negotiations held on May 15th.
The content was published by the National Union of Teachers of Higher Education Institutions (ANDES), which estimates that the message “reinforces authoritarianism and threatens the strike” and wants to continue discussing salary readjustment proposals.
The strike broke out on April 15th. There are currently 58 educational institutions paralyzed throughout the country. The inaction raises the demand for a 22 percent remuneration modification, distributed in three 7.06 portions.
Teachers seek not only a salary restructuring but also attention to working conditions and investments in federal educational institutions.
According to the Poder360 portal, ANDES indicated that it won’t accept the proposal of the Government of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, although the Union of Teachers of Federal Institutions of Higher Education and Basic Technical and Technological Education was favorable to the government’s offer.
