After receiving a visit from the National Interoceanic Railway Commission on Thursday, Redondo stated that the work, whose total length will be more than 630 kilometers, will change the future of “our children and our families.”
During the presentation of the proposal, which was described as being of national interest, the private secretary of the president of Honduras and coordinator of the Commission, Héctor Zelaya, highlighted the importance of starting work in the key areas of Puerto Cortés, Castilla, and San Lorenzo to optimize conditions
Based on the information disseminated on the social networks of the Honduran Legislative branch, the construction of this mega project seeks to redefine the economic and social development of the country through its ports, streamline the transportation of goods and promote an increase in commercial flow in the region.
According to Zelaya, this is the most attractive option for world trade and represents the largest infrastructure project in the history of Honduras.
The estimated cost is 15 billion dollars, with an execution time of approximately 10 years. The initiative foresees the passage of freighters with a capacity greater than 300 thousand tons, and the transportation of 10 thousand containers in 24 hours.
Among the nations interested in developing the mega work are the United States, China, Italy, Spain, Japan, South Korea, and Qatar.
