Wu referred in a press conference to the joint military exercises that the Eastern Theater Command of the People’s Liberation Army of China has been carrying out since Thursday around the island of Taiwan.

What scares us is the interference of external forces, which is a completely reasonable, legal, legitimate, and necessary concern. Once “Taiwan independence” is provoked, our countermeasures will be pushed forward until the complete reunification of the motherland is achieved, the spokesman stressed.

The official reiterated that the “Joint Sword 2024” joint exercises around the island of Taiwan seek to test the actual combat capabilities of troops.

He added that this operation aims to curb the arrogance of “Taiwan independence” and deter interference from outside forces.

Wu emphasized that leaders in the Taiwan region have seriously defied the principle of “One China” since they assumed power, brazenly promoting the “two-state theory” and attempting to seek independence through force and with the help of other countries.
