The CEO of the Academy, Manuel Abud, described Vives as one of the most prolific artists and recognized his commitment to Latin music.
He confirmed that the honor as Person of the Year is awarded for his contributions to Cultural Heritage and his philanthropic initiatives.
On social media, Vives reacted to such a great honor and posted a video with highlights of his nomination, according to CNN en Español.
He also included a message in which he said he was very excited and added that being named Person of the Year “is a reward for an authentic journey, for a wonderful team¨.
It is an expression which I call “the recognition of the musical spirits of our Hispanic American diversity,” he added.
The Academy of Music confirmed that Vives, winner of 18 Latin Grammy Awards and two Grammys, will be honored at a special gala on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Latin Grammy Awards, to be held this year in Miami.
