Accompanied by the Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of Cuba’s Communist Party Roberto Morales, the president began his tour of the the “Martires de Jaiba” Semi-Rustic Reproduction Center Incubation Plant, opened by Army General Raul Castro, for the breeding of chickens.
On X, the Presidency referred this facility has 32 workers who are looking for alternatives to soar the birds’ feed and replace imported feed, and increase the number of breeders.
Today, the workers’ collective is allocating its egg production to pregnant and vulnerable women in the province.
“The highlands’ inhabitants have to produce their own food,” the president said stressing the need to diversify production without neglecting the purpose of this center, which is strategic for the mountains.
“We have to break this mentality and plant corn, to sustain the poultry feed and increase the production for which this place was conceived,” Diaz Canel underscored.
Yateras is located just over thirty kilometers from the provincial capital and has some 18,000 settlers. So far this year, the president has visited the municipalities of Maisi, Manuel Tames, El Salvador and Baracoa in Guantanamo.
