“This cooperation is actively developing, and there is nothing surprising in this, since our cooperation has deep and solid roots, and Russia has no colonial history,” said the legislator when speaking this Wednesday at the International Conference of Parliamentarians for Peace, which meets in Moscow.
In this regard, he emphasized that Russian foreign policy has always been based on the principles of equality and consideration of the positions of others.
In the era of building a new multipolar world, it is more important than ever to guarantee security in all manifestations of the word, not just national security in its classical sense. In the modern era, it is necessary to ensure information, food, medical and biological security, he added.
Furthermore, Melnikov stated that the desire to control the media and social networks by international corporations poses a threat to the sovereign development of society.
The technologies used are already affecting electoral processes and legislative work in several countries. Artificial intelligence can become a new threat if deterrent measures are not taken, the Russian representative warned.
On the other hand, he considered that food security problems can also serve as a weapon to impose solutions that are alien to national interests.
The International Conference “Parliamentarians for Peace” is a platform for the exchange of opinions between members of parliaments and international parliamentary organizations of Latin America and Russia. The forum is organized by the Central American Parliament (Parlacen) and the State Duma.
