On behalf of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), the Government and the people, President Miguel Diaz-Canel decreed an official mourning during which there were many expressions of sorrow for Raisi’s death.
Diaz-Canel lamented the death of the Iranian president in a helicopter crash on Sunday, which also claimed the lives of Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and other companions.
On his X profile, the head of State described Ebrahim Raisi as a friend of Cuba, an admirable politician, and loved by his people.
Other Cuban government officials also expressed their grief over the tragedy in Iran, where five days of national mourning were declared, and Vice President Mohamed Mokhber assumed presidential responsibilities.
We express our deepest condolences to the people and parliamentary authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran, National People’s Power Assembly (Parliament) President Esteban Lazo wrote on the same platform.
Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez, in turn, expressed “the most heartfelt condolences for the death of Raisi and Amir-Abdollahian.”
“We extend our condolences to the families and friends of the victims. All solidarity and support from Cuba to the sister Islamic Republic of Iran,” he added.
The national mourning began at 06:00 hours, local time, on Tuesday. During that period, the national flag was raised at half-mast in public buildings and military institutions.
