The Cuban diplomat’s statements came during the 5th Ibero-American Ministerial Conference on Labor, which is taking place in the Ecuadorian capital on Wednesday under the slogan “Promoting Youth and Inclusive Employment in Ibero-America.”
In his speech, Gutierrez emphasized that in Cuba all people receive equal pay for equal working hours without discrimination and the right to rest, they have paid annual vacations, social security and health at work is respected.
For our country, young people who reach the working age are a priority source for access to employment. Their incorporation into the labor market is provided for in the actions designed to meet the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, the diplomat reiterated.
Gutierrez also referred to Cuba’s strategy to guarantee jobs for young graduates from higher education and technical-professional schools, in line with the studies they have completed and the demand for a skilled workforce for the country’s development.
In this regard, he highlighted as another positive experience, the possibility offered to students of working age to be hired part-time during teaching periods, without affecting their studies, or fully during vacations or a recess.
Ecuadorian Labor Minister Ivonne Nuñez said on Wednesday that at this meeting, where representatives of Ibero-American countries participated, the challenges of youth employment, inclusive employment and the promotion of the Violet Economy will be addressed.
‘These issues are of utmost importance to determine the future of our societies and economies,’ he commented.
The Declaration from the 5th Ibero-American Ministerial Conference will be raised to the heads of State and Government at the 29th Ibero-American Summit in 2024, scheduled for November in the Ecuadorian city of Cuenca, in the province of Azuay.
