The evidence was sufficient to convict Gnatov, a former 36th Marine Brigade commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the institution wrote on its Telegram profile.
The investigation established that from July to September 2019, the general gave criminal orders to his soldiers to shell the populated areas near the Telmanovo and Novoazovsk districts of Donetsk with heavy artillery.
Judges found the Ukrainian general guilty of murder, cruel treatment of civilians, use of prohibited methods of warfare, and other serious charges.
Russian authorities have issued an arrest warrant for the general.
