Meeting of SCO foreign ministers begins in Kazakhstan

Astana, May 21 (Prensa Latina) The meeting of foreign ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) began in the capital of Kazakhstan with an analysis of the complex international situation, the local foreign ministry reported on Tuesday.

The heads of the delegations will also discuss the preparations for the SCO summit, which will take place on July 3-4 in Astana, as well as other issues affecting the Eurasian region.

The foreign ministers of the member countries of the group will also pay attention to the development prospects of the organization and its adaptation to a new world order.

The ministers will study the candidates for the position of new secretary general of the organization and director of the Executive Committee of the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure.

Participants will also prepare a package of documents for approval by the heads of State.

Russia is represented by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, while Iran is represented by Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy Mehdi Safari.
