At a press conference, Chen referred to Washington and some other countries sending personnel to attend the inauguration ceremony of Lai Ching-te, who won Taiwan’s recent election.

On the morning of May 20, Taipei City held an inauguration ceremony for the leader of Taiwan’s 16th region, where deputy leaders Lai Ching-te and Hsiao Meiqin were sworn in.

There is only one China in the world and Taiwan is an inalienable part of it.

The one-China principle is the basic rule of international relations and the general consensus of the international community, the spokesman clarified in his contact with the press.

He denounced that the Taiwan-based Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities maintain their independence provocations and expand the so-called international space, in collusion with external forces.

Their actions are completely contrary to mainstream public opinion on the island and undermine peace and stability in the region.

Taiwan’s independence is a dead end, and the DPP’s actions to seek the support of outside forces will only bring serious harm to the Taiwanese people, Chen stressed.

The spokesman concluded that no one can change the fact that Taiwan is part of China and the international community’s pattern of adherence to that principle, which is solely aimed at eventual reunification, cannot be altered.
