In a message to the acting president of the Islamic Republic Mohammad Mokhber, Kim expressed his “deep condolences” over the “overwhelming” news of the deaths of Raisi, Foreign Minister Hosein Amir Abdolahian and eight other officials in a helicopter crash.
The secretary general of the Workers’ Party and chairman of the State Affairs Committee highlighted the late leader’s contributions to the defense of Iran’s interests and called him “an eminent statesman” and “a close friend of the Korean people.”
Expressing the condolences of the DPRK government and people as well as his own, Kim said that he was convinced that Iran will continue to move forward with firm steps to build a prosperous and powerful nation.
The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and the Islamic Republic of Iran established diplomatic ties in 1973 and have maintained a high level of consensus on the most relevant issues of international affairs, in the face of the sanctions to which they are subjected due to their nuclear programs.
