Belize cancels classes in regions affected by forest fires

Belmopan, May 20 (Prensa Latina) The government of Belize today halted classes in localities of the country that have been affected by forest fires and suffer heavy environmental pollution due to this cause.

The Ministry of Education declared the measure for all schools in the Toledo district and considered the action necessary due to the poor air quality in that area.

It is not dismissed that more districts will implement this measure, since the country suffers from persistent heat and the atmosphere is loaded with toxic smoke due to the fires that are burning uncontrollably in its territory.

In the last days, meteorological authorities have decreed more than once alerts for extreme heat and health authorities have issued recommendations to be followed by the population to avoid casualties due to the climatic situation.

The panorama is more complex because a dense column of dust from the Sahara has arrived in the country, which affects the rise in temperatures and pollution.
